Gypo Circus

Gypo Circus

In 2011 a new color was added to the then fading palette of the Hungarian folk-ska-punk scene when Gypo Circus was founded by five musicians who all have totally different social and musical backgrounds. It had long been the dream of all the members to play in a band which mixes ethno music (balkan, klezmer, gypsy) with indie style (whatever that means), that results in a sound which has never been heard before in Hungary despite it doesn’t create a brand new genre.

Bandi Hegyesi – guitars, lead vocals
Kosta Velcsev Dejanov – guitars, backing vocals
Sanyi Kecskeméti – bass guitar, backing vocals
Zoli Muhel – drums, backing vocals
Jancsi Szabó – violin

Sometimes they refer to the band as the Hungarian Gogol Bordello, which is quite suitable if we take into consideration their playing style and the energy flowing from it. During live shows it’s common to see the violin played with a bow put in a shoe and the bass guitar played as if it was a dulcimer, and of course the whole performance is overwhelmed with the balkan vibe...

Artists who influence the band:
Gogol Bordello, Napra, Mano Negra, Besh O Drom, Kusturica, Guy Ritchie, Sex Pistols, Manu Chao, Goran Bregovic and many others.
