The Plastic People of the Universe

The Plastic People of the Universe (CZ)

All the acts done by this cult and legendary band is living history. PPU formed after the invasion on Prague by the Warsaw Pact countries. Its psychedelic, dadaistic rock - which was strongly influenced by Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa - profoundly impressed the young Czech intellectuals. The "subversive" performances of the band led to arrestation and conviction of the members. Their processes and sentences became the immediate causes of the political movement Charta '77 led by Václav Hável, close friend to the band members. This is their first gig ever in Hungary.
