Deus Ex Quartet

The Deus Ex Quartet, which consists of active participants in the Hungarian underground, is today one of the most promising experimental bands in Hungary. The members of the band have known each other since they were children - Kristóf Velsz and the Chernivtsi brothers also belong to a family - and the harmony between the members is further strengthened by the fact that all four of them participate in the quartet as composers.

The music of Deus Ex, founded in Budapest in 2016, mixes various elements of serious and folk music with the style of improvisational jazz with surprising naturalness. In their pieces that intentionally blur genre boundaries, we can find elements taken from drum’n’bass, contemporary jazz, Hungarian folk music, drone metal, contemporary music, or bossanova, which are organically incorporated into the structure of their compositions. After three years of gigs, the band first released a physical soundtrack in January 2019, when they immediately appeared with an EP trilogy: the three albums with different concepts are Vein Blossom, Deep Sea and Horus.

Synesthetic4

Synesthetic4 is a progressive urban jazz quartet that draws inspiration from rap, contemporary classic and neodada and is known for its own stylized music video productions. They received the german record critics award for their debut album Pickedem. The band was founded by Vincent Pongracz and Peter Rom in 2017. Since then the Quartet made its mark on the European Scene with shows at Jazzfest Saalfelden, Ljubljana Jazzfestival, Jazzwerkstatt Bern, April Jazz, and Orbit Jazz Johannesburg among others. The program which atmospherically combines elements of Contemporary Music, Jazz, Funk and Electronic Music moves “confidently from frenzy to humourous wit” (© Tom Gsteiger). The band providing for “colourful cineastics” and “creative vituosity” (©Austrian Sounds) also features Manu Mayr on bass and Andreas Lettner on drums.
