The German band Faun mainly composes in the styles of pagan folk, neofolk, darkwave and medieval music. This mixed style has been represented by the band since its founding in 1998, although since the more mystical works of the early days, they have moved in a direction that is much easier to digest and accept.
Faun's musical spectrum is very broad, they feed on the music of many European peoples and sing in many languages, and they also use a wide variety of folk instruments in their songs: various pipes, bagpipes, lutes or even harps.
The name of the band can be derived from Greco-Roman mythology, where Faunus is a forest deity.
