Founded in 1973, Muzsikás is one of the most popular Hungarian folk music bands in Hungary and the best known abroad. They are listed as cultural ambassadors of the country. They move at home at folk, folk and world music festivals and at classical music concerts. They were the first in the world to accept Hungarian folk music as a stand-alone musical style equivalent to any other genre. They are present at major concert venues, festivals, and are available worldwide from the Anglo-American RYKODISC. Their concerts and albums are widely recognized by the major newspapers, magazines, and music magazines.

They performs with renowned classical soloists, chamber ensembles, choirs and symphony orchestras at home and abroad. In November 2016, they performed concerts with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai and performed at the Concert Budapest Music Choir at the Musicians-Musicians Concert Series. Frequent guests of the Musician's concerts are Maria Petrás, Prima Primissima Prize winner, Moldavian-born ceramic artist, singer or winner of the Peacock Television Folk Song Contest, Hacs Kacsó. In 2017, with their Allegro Barbaro concert series, Bartók's piano music and folk music were performed at the Hungarian Concert Halls by guest pianist Balázs Fülei. In addition to large concerts, the Muzsikás attaches great importance to the regular children's dance house and the unconventional singing and music lessons considered the smallest.

Holders of numerous awards and honors. These include the Hungarian Art Award, the Ferenc Liszt Prize, the Hungarian Heritage Prize, the Kossuth Prize and the Prima Primissima Prize. The band was also recognized as the first European band in 2008 to receive the most prestigious international world music award, the WOMEX Award.
