Andrej Tóth, Urbi et Orbi. Paintings by Tamás Dobos
A38 Exhibition Venue, November 2-15, 2020.
The exhibition Urbi et Orbi was born out of a partnership of trust. Painter and graphic artist Andrej Tóth invited his friend, the internationally renowned photographer and cinematographer Tamás Dobos, to choose unpublished natural and life pictures from his own photographs taken by telephone for the subject he defined. Giclée prints were made of the selected images. Andrej Tóth then continued to work with acrylic and watercolor on these landscape format A3 photos. The images show the figures and life situations of Andrej known from previous series, which enriches the photographs with a new message. Tóth did not repaint the pictures, with his work he rather dialogues with his fellow creator, opposes and confirms the original photos. In this series, two branches of art, photography and painting, and two artists meet, and a new quality is born.
The topic of the exhibition material is related to the situation caused by the pandemic, the images thematize it: insecurity, experiencing the importance of coexistence, desire, meeting each other, emphasizing the importance of cultivating human relationships, conversation, and the fact that it is such an issue that affects us all. an experience in which we experience the same experience worldwide.
The material of the exhibition simultaneously gives back the experience of closedness and community existence. Andrej Tóth was strongly influenced by the scene when Pope Francis appeared in the rain in the empty square of the Vatican and offered a blessing. This blessing gives the title of the series and at the same time the basic mood of the images.
Outside and inside, together and separately - these concepts have received a stronger emphasis in the lives of all of us in recent months. The possibility of going out into nature, as it appears in life, in the pictures.
The exhibition will be opened by: Adél Kováts, director of the Radnóti Theater
