Piano Day Budapest presents: contemporary Hungarian pianists from the modern classical scene.
“Why does the world need Piano Day? For many reasons. But mainly because it doesn't hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: the performers, the composers, the piano makers, the tuners, but most of all, the students. ”In 2015, Piano Day launched the Piano Day initiative. Nils Frahm, one of the most influential modern classic performers of our time. It is the 88th day of every year (also referring to the keys), when one of the most defining instruments in music history is celebrated worldwide with piano-centered evenings. In Budapest, vaghy (Tamás Vághy) started organizing the first event 4 years ago. In its second year, a full-house event was held on the A38, which had to be extended to two days due to high interest. In the third year, the event moved within the walls of the MÜPA, where it also developed with great success as a full-day full-house event. Piano Day Budapest would have continued its career in MÜPÁ in 2020 as well, but unfortunately this failed due to the current situation. In 2021, we did not even start organizing due to the epidemic situation.
But what is Piano Day? One of the most influential modern classical performers of our time, Nils Frahm, launched this initiative in 2015, saying it is worth celebrating the piano for many reasons. Because why not. Since then, the 88th day of each year (also referring to the number of keys), i.e. March 29, is Piano Day: this is when (or near this time) one of the most defining instruments in music history is celebrated worldwide with piano-centered evenings.
