ANCIENT POWER AND MAGIC, Atilla Grandpierre talks to Kristóf Sánta:
If music is really important to us, then we have to grasp the question, 'what is music really?' If the Universe is not alive, then music is nothing more than a psychophysical phenomenon: a combination of physical sound waves psychically interpreted and endowed with human-given meaning. In this view, music is a functional phenomenon, it amuses, pleases, and drives away boredom. If the Universe is alive, then music is consequently a vital thing: it helps us to experience and feel the law force of the eternal feelings of the Universe that lives and feels in the natural laws of life, teaches us to live, lifts us out of the gray and worn-out treadmill, equips us and gives us the strength to find ourselves. The ancient, natural man always sought to live in a cosmic stream of feelings saturated with vitality, certainty and freshness. In our day and age, we have no reason to belittle our own lives by accounting for things of cosmic importance as relative and contingent. If we view and perceive music according to its original value, in its original purity, we can look into the Heavens, regain the lost sanctuary of our soul, learn to speak with the secrets of existence, taste the fruits of salvation, and feel what it means to truly live.
