Vesna, the Czech girl group who appeared at Eurovision, plays in Budapest for the first time! Czech folk-rock will rock Budapest on 3rd November, when Prague-based Vesna, who have made their way to tenth place in this year's Eurovision Song Contest, will take to the A38 stage for the first time.
Vesna is a real girl band not only because it is made up of six women, but also because they play alternative folk-pop-rock with a real female energy. The name is no coincidence either: according to Slavic mythology, Vesna were the beautiful women who lived in mountaintop palaces and debated the fate of mortals. They left the palace only once a year, in the spring, and only the luckiest could hear their songs. We are one of the lucky ones, because for the first time we will be visited by the Czech Republic's best-selling export, Vesna, who came tenth in this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
The band was formed in Prague in 2017. The founder Patricie felt the world needed a band of women to celebrate Slavic female togetherness. Their debut album, 2018's Pátá bohyne (The Fifth Goddess), immediately propelled them to the top, nominated in the Emerging Artist category at the Czech Republic's most prestigious music awards. In an earlier interview, Patrice shared with listeners that the songs were inspired half by true events and half by Czech stories and sagas. The pandemic was a good enough opportunity for them to start recording their second album. The resulting songs were finally released in 2020 under the title 'Anima', and quickly cemented the band's position on the pop scene, while allowing them to maintain their distinctive folk sound and dreamy melodies. In February 2022, in response to the news of the invasion of Ukraine, they joined several popular Czech bands in a huge charity concert, raising funds to help the victims of the war and to promote solidarity.
To make this sisteherhood felt by as many people as possible, their songs are in four different languages. Their Eurovision hit 'My sister's crown', which includes lyrics in English, Czech, Ukrainian and Bulgarian, has over ten million listens on Spotify. It's time to bring their message to Budapest on their first major tour. Let's dance on 3rd November at the A38 Ship!
