WHY WHY

Their style is characterized by a mixture of indie, alternative and electronic music. Most of their own compositions are written in Hungarian and a small part in English. The influences of Depeche Mode, The Beatles, David Bowie, U2 and Muse can be seen in their modern sound inspired by ancient times.

Meet three men working just about within the confines of their unrefined musical ability, rarely moving much on stage, but nudging at the boundaries of the kind of noise that can be generated by a standard rock trio and still sound tuneful, soulful, even delicate.

These guys are haunted by the 90s, but exorcise their influences by twisting them into interesting new shapes. Guitarist Juro sprays distorted and corrupted data from his instrument in surprising digital patterns, while bassist Simon bounces, bubbles, and bobs, and drummer Philip holds it all together like an overworked blacksmith with an unremovable earworm.

Their second album, ‘The Great End’, released in February 2024 on Noise Appeal Records, draws inspiration from a range of personal and global experiences, wrapping up a preoccupation with death, loss, and instability into a surprisingly euphoric package.

The results range from three-minute pop songs to long, grooving rock explorations, hitting a different mood with every song, and flirting with a wide variety of genres without really fitting into any of them. Too fast to be slowcore, too poppy for post-rock, and not quite dreamy enough for shoegaze.

In the end, it’s a good old-fashioned alt-rock cocktail. So raise a toast and prepare for the end.

The concert was supported by LivEurope and the Austrian Cultural Forum.
